Jan 18, 2008 11:24 AM - “Meet the Organizer,” the educational and practical program featured three speakers from the Connecticut Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers. Ginger Smyle, KB Bryant and Liz Farrell each covered distinct areas of organizational challenges for a diverse group of individuals eager to get different aspects of their lives in order.

Taftville Girl Scout Troop 63606 was represented by middle school students who attended the informative meeting as part of the requirement for their Organizer Badge, working towards the highly-regarded Silver Award.

Norwich resident Nancy Croxtor came to the program with her teenage son, Alexander. Both were armed with pens and notebooks, in an effort to get as much from the event as possible. “We’re curious to see what we can learn,” Croxtor said.

The evening began with Ginger Smyle and advice for those contemplating a move sometime in the foreseeable future . According to the expert, advanced planning is the key to minimizing the negative aspects of what is widely recognized as a stressful experience under even the best of circumstances. Residing in Mystic, Smyle is the owner of GBS Organizing and comes to the table with impressive credentials, including experience as an event planner and caterer. She is also accredited in “staging,” a selling tool gaining popularity amongst those in the house-selling arena.

KB Bryant has a background in retail management and technology and spoke about avoiding the “Black Hole of Time.” This portion of the program dealt with time management and prioritizing , in a humorous presentation.

Liz Farrell from Lyme was the last to speak and focused on the highlights of organizational techniques for the home.
Following the planned presentations by the speakers, there was a questionand-answer period so those in attendance could have their own specific questions addressed.

Organizing has become big business during the past two decades, and its popularity has spurred the creation of several cable television shows, as well as the numerous articles appearing in magazines month after month.
